Last Saturday Ryan competed in his first triathlon. And he did great! It was the Salem Spring Triathlon, a sprint distance, which is 800 meters swimming in open water (a pond), 13 miles biking, and a 5K run. He did worse than expected swimming (but it was his first open water swim, so that's kind of to be expected, actually), great in the biking, and better than expected in the running. Ava and I went to cheer him on. Except instead of cheering, she cried when she saw him transition from bike to run and then take off running away from her. (Why is my daddy running away from me!) Fortunately there were people with dogs there to distract her from her sorrows.
Who knows, maybe next year I'll give it a whirl. I just have to learn how to really swim.
