Bragging Rights

Ryan won second place in the Frozen Hog mountain bike race yesterday!
He even took a wrong turn and still managed that. The night before, he had said to me, "It will be interesting to see how I do in this race tomorrow, because I'm not super in shape, but I'm not really out of shape either." Guess he was in shape enough! And he got a little red grade-school-style 2nd Place ribbon. Aaaw.
And his friend Todd got first place! Yay Todd!

Baby Kicks

I felt my first baby kicks tonight, and lots of them!
A few times before I thought maybe I felt him* kicking, but it turned out to be just gas {blush}.

*We think it's a boy. We'll let you know for sure next month, if he cooperates at the ultrasound.

Green 'stache and other tidbits

Ava loves her green juice (Odwalla Superfood).

This one's blurry but I had to include it because she's just so happy!

Do you like our 80's high chair? It's a hook-on-the-counter one that we've borrowed from Mama Cook, and it's awesome. Too bad they don't make 'em like this anymore (I'm not talking about the pattern, I'm talking about the structure).

She also has a new squeal/screech that sounds like you just ran over a puppy.

And whenever I walk in her room to fetch her out of her crib, she is standing up against the railing and immediately throws her little 8x8" blanky on the floor. She then walks over to her big soft pink blanket which is often draped over the end of the crib (the one auntie Allie made) and rubs it with her hands and face (something I showed her a few days ago, and apparently she loved).  That's the routine. Every time.

She also throws away her diapers now. After a change, I wrap it up tight and tell her to throw it away. She walks it over to the diaper pail and drops it in and flips the top over (thus depositing the stink in the sealed chamber below). And then she flips it again and again and again and again.

Speaking of again, she tries to say that word after I play "pat-a-cake" or "motor-boat" with her. Those are my games to distract her during diaper changes (so she doesn't scream and try to roll away). Before I can even finish she starts yelling, "adai, adai" which is Ava for, "again, again!"

I love being a mom. Especially her mom.

Retirement

Yesterday I officially retired from my job. Now I will be staying home with Ava & focusing on motherhood, freelancing, crafting, blogging, cleaning, and freeing up more time for Ryan to complete his heavy workload. I have today all scheduled out to maximize efficiency and minimize laziness and time-wasting (my greatest fear for my new life). I'm really going to miss all my work friends though. It's just never the same when you aren't together for 6-9 hours a day.
I feel very blessed to have had the job I did, and worked with the people I did. And I feel very blessed to now be able to focus more on my family. It will require some sacrifices financially, but there will also be great blessings. I'm looking forward to this new life!
And baby #2 will be happy to have me home too, I'm sure! I'm due in the middle of July!

Christmas with the Hinmans

We went to West Virginia for Christmas 2010, to spend the holidays with G'ma and G'pa Hinman, cousin Powells, cousin Edwards, and cousin Michaelises. It was a full house and unfortunately I only snapped a few photos.

Ava found a new friend:

 Hey, a nose!
She can play nice too, though her pats often turned violent as well...

Building an igloo. I can't believe I didn't get a finished shot. It turned out quite nicely:

Christmas morning, watching a video about the birth of Christ:

Kids enthralled with the game Angry Birds:

Garrett and Thomas in coincidentally matching jammies:

There, there, it's okay:

Why do kids hate photos?

This is old. After Thanksgiving, my siblings and I got together (we spent Thanksgiving with our in-laws). Tiffany was sick and couldn't make it, but requested a photo of all the kid cousins. This is the chaos that ensued.
Emma, Ava, Dave and Sam. Not a bad start...

In comes Naomi on the left and Thomas to the right of Ava:

Naomi wants out. Sam is done:

Leather couches appear to be too slippery for toddlers and babies:

Trying again. Ashton on the left, Ivan resituating Emma. Ava still unstable:

Naomi refusing to participate. Sam wanting out again:

Yeah, it's just not getting any better. So we gave up:
